Manchester united vs Liverpool 2019

With just one win in their last seven Premier League (PL) matches (W1, D3, L3) the pressure is on for Manchester United as they take on Liverpool in the North West Derby. Nine goals scored (1.13 on average) and nine points from eight matches in the league are hardly inspiring, but United have history on their side as they’ve lost this home PL fixture just once since 2010 (W7, D2, L1).

United put four past Chelsea here in the season premiere, but have since scored precisely one goal in each of their last five competitive home matches (after 90 mins) - four of those matches saw them open the scoring.

Liverpool, meanwhile, is out to equal the current record for straight PL wins as they could claim their 18th on the bounce here. They beat United by 31 points last season and the distance is already 15 this time around - yet the ‘Reds’ have scored a paltry three goals in five visits to Old Trafford under J├╝rgen Klopp.

Four of the six last PL H2Hs have been a draw, and just two of the last nine competitive H2Hs have featured three goals or more. However, four of Liverpool’s last five visits here have seen both teams find the net (in all competitions), while both teams have scored in nine of their 13 competitive matches overall this season.

Players to watch: Marcus Rashford (MUN) has two goals and two yellow cards in four PL matches against Liverpool. Roberto Firmino (LIV), meanwhile, has scored in three of four PL away matches this season.

Stat attack: Referee Martin Atkinson has dealt an average of 3.57 yellow cards per PL match this season.

Entering the round, United has the ‘honor’ of losing points from a half-time lead more often than any other side (three of eight matches).
Liverpool has scored the first goal in all but one PL match this season.
