Arsenal vs ST Liegie 4.10.2019

A 3-0 win in Frankfurt represented the perfect start for Arsenal in this season’s UEFA Europa League (UEL) campaign. Overall it is now six UEL wins in seven for the Gunners, with five of those six victories coming by a margin of multiple goals. Arsenal has also won their last five UEL home games in succession, all with a clean sheet and/or a winning margin of over 1.5 goals. Their last four UEL games here fall into the latter category, with the ‘Gunners’ prevailing in seven of a possible eight halves across those wins, and scoring exactly twice in the opening half-hour of the last three.

Standard Liège won on matchday one too, but their all-time record vs English clubs stands at W2, D3, L11. Furthermore, their UEL away form has been dire in recent years, with the Belgian outfit returning a record of W2, D3, L9, from all UEL trips since October 2013.

Just one of those wins came during the group stage. Yet, regardless of the result, Standard has still managed to score in four of their last five UEL away games, with both of their away goals in last season’s group stage coming in the first half.

AZ Alkmaar vs Manchester United Europa league 4.10.2019

AZ Alkmaar host Manchester United have won two of their previous seven European home fixtures against English clubs (W2, D4, L1). They boast solid recent home form too, losing none of their previous nine competitive matches (W6, D3).

Impressively, they kept a clean sheet in six of those nine fixtures. Free-scoring at present, the Dutch side have scored two or more goals in five of their last seven competitive matches, with six of their previous seven goals scored coming after half-time. Additionally, each of the previous two matches saw them score a goal between the 46th-60th minute period. Manchester United boast a modest away record (W4, D2, L5) in the Europa League (EL), but their away form in recent times has been poor. They have failed to win any of their previous nine competitive away matches (D3, L6).
