A 3-0 win in Frankfurt represented the perfect start for Arsenal in this season’s UEFA Europa League (UEL) campaign. Overall it is now six UEL wins in seven for the Gunners, with five of those six victories coming by a margin of multiple goals.
Arsenal has also won their last five UEL home games in succession, all with a clean sheet and/or a winning margin of over 1.5 goals. Their last four UEL games here fall into the latter category, with the ‘Gunners’ prevailing in seven of a possible eight halves across those wins, and scoring exactly twice in the opening half-hour of the last three.
Standard Liège won on matchday one too, but their all-time record vs English clubs stands at W2, D3, L11. Furthermore, their UEL away form has been dire in recent years, with the Belgian outfit returning a record of W2, D3, L9, from all UEL trips since October 2013.
Just one of those wins came during the group stage. Yet, regardless of the result, Standard has still managed to score in four of their last five UEL away games, with both of their away goals in last season’s group stage coming in the first half.
